Back to School—Everything you need to Know & Go

Dear Heath Families,
We hope you are enjoying a restful and rejuvenating summer break. It’s hard to believe that September is just around the corner! We wanted to take this opportunity to welcome new families to the Heath community and to share some important dates for the 2016-2017 school year to assist with back-to-school planning.
• On Wednesday, August 31st at 12 noon, the PTO will host a Kick-Off Lunch for our staff that will once again be a potluck. Please click the link to sign up  and make your contribution –  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e49a9ae1-staff?1471551478644
If you are an incoming Kindergarten family or a new family at Heath, we look forward to seeing you on September 1st (A-M) and 2nd (N-Z) at the Principal and PTO Welcome Coffees for New Parents in the cafeteria after morning drop-off. All parents are welcome!
• On September 9th we will have a Room Parent and PTO Leadership meeting immediately after drop off.  If you are interested in leading or serving on a committee please be sure to join us!  If you are already involved in a committee we also ask that you join us to review your committee’s needs.
Open Houses will have a new format this year, happening in classrooms early morning between September 9th and September 22nd for Grades K-5 (6th-8th will be an evening event). The final schedule will be posted soon into the start of the school year. Open Houses provide an opportunity for teachers to present the curriculum, as well as classroom goals. Additionally, Room Parents will organize parent potlucks for each class K-5 and each grade 6-8 for some evening in September or October.
• Please join us on Friday, September 16th (on the playground, 5-6:30 pm) for the Back to School BBQ, an annual tradition hosted by the PTO and organized by Heath’s first grade parents. We will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, and more!
We encourage you to attend our PTO Kick Off meeting of the new school year on Friday, October 7th from 8-9 am. At this meeting, we will discuss PTO goals for 2016-2017; talk about the many current volunteer opportunities at Heath; and, present the PTO budget, including information on how teachers and parents can submit funding proposals in 2016-2017.
***This year, the PTO will continue to expand the use of our online directory of Heath families & staff for enhanced classroom and school/PTO communication. If you have already joined the directory, we ask that you update your information and place your student(s) in the appropriate class. This is the only means that we will have to compile a class list. For new families, you should have received an email on how to create a username and password to input your information into this secure and protected database. Please email www.heathptodirectory@gmail.com

We look forward to seeing new faces this year and working with all of you to continue to create the best possible educational environment at Heath!

Sincerely,
Eileen O’Grady, PTO Co-President
Rina Kaul, PTO Co-President
Gaelle From, PTO Vice President/ Secretary
Rachel Wexler, PTO Co-Treasurer
John Freese, PTO Co-Treasurer
